Audio Systems: 1990 Toyota Carolla - removing radio, toyota carolla, stereos

Question
I can't seem to figure out how to remove my radio. The dealer says it has a short and I have a used radio to replace it with. So far I have removed the front plate but the radio itself won't budge. Can you help?
Is it possible for me to fix the short?
Any advice for installing the other radio?
Peggy

Answer
Peggy,
If you have the trim around the stereo removed you should see several screws that hold the stereo into the dash. On some stereos the stereo itself is held into the dash with plastic clips that you have to hold as you pull out on the stereo. As far as the short goes, If you have any electronics troubleshooting knowledge you should be able to track the short in the stereo. Once you have the existing stereo out of the dash check to see if the connecter is the same as the replacement stereo.
