Audio Systems: Car stereo install for 91 Buick Regal, delco radio, buick regal

Question
I purchased a new stereo for my 91 Buick Regal and I also bought the proper wiring harness, but it does not fit and match to the one I unplugged from the small square Delco radio I removed, someone told me that the right place to plug into was behind the glove box and not to use the plug from the original stereo!Could you please tell me if this correct and if not where the world do I connect the plugs to fit properly! Thanks in advance

Answer
Karl,
What kind of stereo did you purchase? In many cases if you have an after market stereo(kenwood, pioneer or other) you will need the adapter connector that plugs onto the factory connector in the dash of the vehicle that you would like to install a new stereo into. The adapter connector will have all the wires marked for what they are used for such as, power and speakers. All you do now is to connect wire for wire from the new stereo to the adapter connector. If this vehicle has an external power amp in it, the adapter connector will plug onto the speaker connector that you unplug from the amp.
