Audio Systems: aiwa sx-790/sx-790r, music listener, stereo center

Question
My stereo system is 12+ years old and I really like it and I'm not a big music listener so I would like to fix this system. I have no sound coming out of the speakers. I had it hooked up to my tv/vcr/dvd and now no sound. Can you help? Is it fixable? Is it worth fixing? thank you  cindy grand forks nd

Answer
Dear Cindy,

"No sound" is one of those awful things you never want to hear...or not. It means that something significantly major, and therefore siginificantly expensive has broken.

IMHO, a 12-year-old Aiwa is not worth fixing. You can replace it--even with another Aiwa mini-system--for less money than it will take to fix the SX-790. In fact, you will get more out of the movies on your DVD player if you get one of the mini-systems that handles surround sound and has the speakers (front/stereo, center, and surround) to match. Although Aiwa doesn't make "home theater in a box", Sony, Panasonic, and Pioneer all do. You can pay as little as $150 and as much as $1,000--and almost anything in between.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,
