Audio Systems: Display unit dead?, volt supply lines, ribbon connector

Question
Have bought a Ministry of Sound car cd radio. When hooked up to the car, the red lights on the 'box' part lignt up and if I press the eject button on the face unit, the unit flips down and I can insert and remove cds (tho they dont play)However, nothing on the face unit lights up - buttons or display.
My suspicion is that the fault lies in the display unit - can you point me in the direction of a likely culprit? My limited testing with a tester suggested that power was reaching the display end of the ribbon connector. Thanks!

make sure that the stereo has both 12 volt supply lines to it, 12 volt hot at all times and 12 volts switched with the key. If you do have both 12 sources to the stereo the stereo may be defective.
