I have two cars a junk 92 camry with a good radio and a 97 camry with a radio.  I have taken both radios out but am not sure how to wire the harness.  Should I buy a new harness or just cut off the existing ones and splice the wires?  Both are OEM radios.  Are the wire colors the same for both radios.  The 92 Radio (cassette, CD and radio) came with the premium 6 speaker system.  The 97 is just a cassette and radio with 4 speakers.

I have never replaced a radio before, as you can probably tell from the question.

Carl,
The 92 stereo unit is a premium system that uses an external power amp that is mounted somewhere in the vehicle. What are you planning on doing with these stereos?

Tom,

I just want to switch the radios.  I plan to play normal music on the premium system.  I did not get the amp out of the car.  Is it absolutely necessary to have the amp?  If so I will probably junk that premium radio or try to sell it.  The car is now at the junk yard with the amp.

Answer
Carl,
With the right adapter connector you could use the premium stereo with just about any kind of an aftermarket amp such as Pioneer, Kenwood or others. Please contact me by direct Email and I will give you more info on how to do this.
