Audio Systems: Intermittent power on, north london area, radio cassette cd

Question
Tom

Thanks for your answer.  I have tried to find a repair shop but our local one told me that BMW do not supply spares so they can't help.  Can you possibly advise who could do it in the north London area - or is there somewhere that sells factory reconditioned radios?  I don't want to spend over £300 just because of a dry joint!

Thanks

Steve

I have a BMW 520 with the original "BMW Business" radio/cassette/CD player.  Recently it has become intermittent - some days the display (and clock) lights up and on other days the display is blank and there is no radio.  A Nokia Bluetooth hands free kit was fitted recently but I don't believe that is the problem.
The local BMW garage can only offer a new swap at over £300 which seems crazy as it is most likely a loose cable or connector.  I have removed and cleaned the three fuses in the glove box but this hasn't helped.
Car is approx 4 years old.
Any ideas please?

Steve,
It sounds like the stereo has an internal defective solder connection on the main board. You may want to have a stereo repair shop take a look at your stereo.

Answer
Steve,
A stereo repair shop should be able to resolder all the defective connections for about $50-$75 US. Since I'm located in the USA, I couldn't advise you about shops in the north London area.
