Audio Systems: Cassette player troubleshooting, 1996 toyota t100, toyota t100

Question
Thanks Tom,

The drink that was spilled was just plain well water and nothing else.  Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Question -
I have a 1996 Toyota T100 truck with a factory installed stereo. It worked perfectly until I spilled some water from a drink over the front of the unit.  The radio did not work right for about 2 days (could not change channels, could not turn volume down or turn off unit) When it "dried out" (or so I think) it began working perfectly again.  However, the cassette player has yet to work again.  When I put a tape in, it ejects it back out.  I have tried drying it out with a hair dryer blowing through the insert hole to no avail.  Any suggestions would be helpful before I am forced to replace the entire unit.

Thanks for your help.
Answer -
Tim,
If the drink was a sugary drink such as coffee or a soda the tape deck will have to be disassembled to remove the sticky mess from the sugar. If any sticky sugar is left on the circuit board it will cause the circuit board to corrode.

Answer
Tim,
The well water may have caused some corrosion to form between the pins of the tape control processor. If you are mechanically/electrically inclined you could try disassembling the stereo and using a X10 magnifier to take a close up look at the circuit board. Pay close attention to the areas between the pins of each IC.
