Audio Systems: Lose my display time and preset stations, gmc sonoma, wire colors

Question
Tom-
I hope you can help me.  I just bought a JVC KD-Ar360 stereo to put in my 96 GMC Sonoma-  The receiver works fantastic but evertime I turn off the car I lose my preset stations and my display time.  I know it has to be my wiring.  I attached the yellow wire to the hot wire but I dont know what I did with my red wire- I think I wired them together.  I have several wires on my GM wiring that I did not use- one was a light brown, one was a brown, and one was orange.  I dont know what these wires are for, can you help? This can be so frustrating.  Thanks for keeping me from pulling my hair out.
Duncan

Answer
Duncan,
The yellow wire should be connected to 12 hot at all times for station memory. The red wire should be connected to 12 switched from the ignition.  Check out  streetdreams.com  for the wire colors for your vehicle.
