Audio Systems: Radio Shortages, sony xplode, grand am gt

Question
I have a 95 Grand am GT and recently purchased a sony xplode stereo.  before i got the radio my car has had problems with the previous factory radio always blowing the ignition/radio fuse in the fuse box.  I installed the sony and it ran fine for a few days then the same problem arose where the fuse would blow.  Now it keeps shorting out.  I don't know what the problem could be and I hope u could help me out.  It seems to have power to accept cds and eject them but no player power.  I have already disconnected all of the speakers to see if that would help but it still shorts out.  Thank you for your time.

Answer
Ryan,
If the factory stereo was blowing the fuse and the new stereo makes the radio fuse blow also, I would think that the problem may be due to a pinched/chaffed 12 volt supply wire somewhere under the dash. The problem may also be due to a fault with the power antenna if your vehicle uses one. If you can pull out the stereo try to trace the wire harness that the stereo power wires come out of. The harness may be pinched by some metal piece that is making the fuse blow. lastly, make sure that the fuse which is blowing is rated at the correct amperage.
