Audio Systems: Factory 6 disc w/aftermarket radio, alpine head unit, aftermarket radio

Question
Hello Tom,

I have a 96 accord LX. It has the original cd changer controlling factory tape deck and a factory 6 disc in the back.  When I listen to the radio/tape/or CD for abt 20-30 minutes, I begin to hear static. Then the sound completely cuts out. I then have to shut off the unit for abt an hour b4 it will play again. I am going to get a new unit but would hate to lose the 6 disc in the back.  I heard that Alpine manufactured the changers for Honda in 96 but have no idea if that is true. If I get an Alpine head unit will it be compatible?  If I want another brand can I get an adapter?

Thank you for any help you can give.

Sincerely,
Anthony R

Answer
Anthony,
The problem may not be with the head unit, but rather with an external amp if one is used. To find out for sure try calling your local Honda dealer and ask the service where the amp may be located. Alpine does make quite a few of CD changers for different makes of vehicles. If you shop for a new head unit, an Alpine unit with a built in CD controller may work the changer in your vehicle.
