Audio Systems: 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse Radio, factory antenna, antenna wire

Question
Hi one morning I routinely got up to go to work and after starting up my car I noticed my radio/cd player was very static like. I could only get one station to tune in and my CD player was drowned out by static. A day later it stopped producing any music at all, just static. I think it may have something to do with a sports suspension and the incredible bumpy roads I live around but I'm not completely sure about that. The only reason I even include that is because I always turn the radio off before I cross the bridge to my house so as not to disturb my neighbors. It was working perfectly before I crossed the bridge on Friday, when I started it up again on Sunday the above conditions occured. I have all factory parts and have made no adjustments to it. The CD player kicks in on the channel tuner. However when I bought the car, I noticed the antenna did not move down like it should when I turned off the car like it was stuck but to be perfectly honest I never thought much about it. Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
Paul,
You may want to purchase a cheap antenna from WalMart and substitute it for the factory antenna. You may need to pull the stereo out of the dash to pull out the factory antenna wire and insert the test antenna. If after plugging in the test antenna and the stereo works like new again contact the dealer to purchase a new factory type antenna for your vehicle.
