Audio Systems: 1988 Cavalier, aftermarket radio, connector wiring

Question
Hey Tom.

Ok, I've got a problem on my hands. My parents bought me an '88 Cavalier 4dr sedan, great condition, except for the fact it has no radio. I want to install an aftermarket radio / CD player, but I have no idea where to begin. All the wires are there, that I can see. I don't really know where to start. I've been looking at radios for a couple weeks now, but I hesitate to buy one because I don't know if it will work with my car. Do I need a double-DIN because the opening is larger, or will DIN do? I've read that there are pins and things like that to install them, but I don't see any as I'm looking at it right now. I'm really confused, and if you could be of assistance, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Andy,
take a good look at the opening/area where the factory stereo was installed. You should see two or three connectors that were plugged into the original stereo. If you do not see the connectors, only loose wires then the last owner of the vehicle has cut off the connectors. don't worry, I will send you the wiring diagram for the connector wiring. All you will need to do is to connect wire for wire to the new stereo that you purchase, 12volt hot and 12 volt switched and all the speaker wires. as for the dash opening, most electronic supply outlets will have the plastic dash adapters that will allow you to install just about any size stereo. BestBuy, CircuitCity and even Radio Shack will have the plastic dash adapters for your vehicle. Please contact me by direct Email so I can send the wiring diagram directly to you.
