Audio Systems: Subwoofer, box and amp combo, watts rms, rockford fosgate

Question
I originally had a Diamond Audio 12" sub with the box custom built for it with a PPI 2 channel amp...unfortunatley, all of that has been stolen so I'm having to replace my system.  With what I had I was getting a very solid bit.  I was pretty pleased with it but I'm thinking about going with 2 10's instead of 1 12".  I'm also thinking of just getting everything from Best Buy but they have Punch.  Is Puch good? What kind of amp(in general with wattage) do I need to look for?  I'm also thinking of 2 JL audio 10's(WO).  For the most part I just want something solid not really something that can be heard down the street.  If this helps, my CD palyer will be the Sony Stealth, I think its an MDX with MP3.

Answer
Rockford-Fosgate makes pretty decent gear.. as do many, many brand names (these days).
JL Audio is also plenty capable of providing great sonics.

In most vehicles, one should be able to get adequate bass (and more) from a pair of 8" woofers if they are loaded well and have the box/power they need. One 10" woofer could do this as well. I have heard MANY single 12" subs (JL's, RF's ect) that are VERY loud  'down the block' on under 150 watts RMS.
Of course, it may be cheaper in the long run to use what is more easily available as to size, but it still needs power and a well tuned and built cabinet to really do its job.

Most people would agree that properly done, 50 watts RMS is a good minimum (per woofer).

Most any deck these days can do the job, I am sure you'll love the Sony.
