Audio Systems: JVC CD player not working, jvc cd player, spindle motor

Question
Hello,

my wife and I have a JVC KD-S636 CD/AM/FM in-car stereo installed aftermarket in a 96 Ford Mondeo LX 1.8  From taking ownership of the car (it was a gift from my father-in-law) as described, the CD player has not worked.  It accepts a CD and reads "play" on the display, showing a revolving disc and then anywhere from 5-10 seconds later says eject, and does so.  we can select tracks while it is trying to read the disc, but it does not play anything.  Everything else works fine.

I have tried cleaning the lens with a lens cleaning kit repeatedly and this has made no difference.  As far as we know, no other attempts at repair have been made.  Any advice you could give would be most helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Eric

Answer
Eric,
The problem may be due to a mechanical misalignment fault or the laser pick up is defective. If the lens in the laser pick up is very dirty/dusty a CD cleaner will not work because the laser has to SEE the disc first before the spindle motor will spin to clean the lens? You may want to try manually cleaning the lens with a Qtip dampened with rubbing alcohol by gently rubbing the lens to clean it. This does require that you remove the stereo from the vehicle and take off the top cover to gain access to the CD assembly.
