1994 Mustang, Mach 460 stereo system. Shipped car to Europe, in transit over 30 days. Now CD player does not play discs, only a whirring sound as it seems to be trying to pull the disc in, but never does, and cassette gives "error 2" when attempting to play a tape. The radio works fine. System worked fine prior to shipping car. Any ideas?
Answer -
John,
It's possible that during transport the vehicle may have been in a dusty area. Any dust or dirt on the lens of the laser and the error code will come up.

Thanks, Tom. Would dust in the CD laser area also affect the cassette player, which is an integral part of the main radio unit? The error code only displays when attempting to play a tape. Thanks again for your help. How does one clear the dust from the laser?

Answer
John,
Sorry I read your question to me so fast that I forgot to mention the tape problem! The tape problem may be due to a worn or broken belt. You may want to remove the stereo from the dash and disassemble it and clean the laser lens with a Qtip dampened with alcohol, gently rub the lens to remove any dust or dirt. Now that the stereo is apart, take a close up look at the tape assembly to SEE if the belt is worn or broken.
