Audio Systems: cassettes wont run, copper circuit, lubricant oil

Question
I recently rear-ended someone and a cup of Coke spilled all over my front dash, including my factory-installed cassette player/radio. I have a 2000 Intrepid. Now no cassettes will play. One tape got eaten and broke when I pulled it out of the player. The gears seem stuck. I tried running a head-cleaning tape, but it gets ejected by the player. Other tapes are accepted, but do not turn. How can I clean the cassette player?

Answer
Kate,
Unfortunately when coffee or soda spills into a stereo CD or Tape player, due to the drinks having sugar in them your only recourse to correct the problem is to have the stereo taken apart and cleaned out. A sugary Coke when spilled onto a copper circuit board will cause the board to quickly corrode. DO NOT spray any kind of a lubricant oil into the tape player or a minor repair will become a major repair.
