Audio Systems: static and error code in aftermarket cd player, jensen cdh900, laser pickup

I just bought a jensen cdh900. when i put in a cd sometimes it makes static sounds. also sometimes it won't read the cd and on the display screen it'll say error-6 or error-8. what's the problem?

The error codes are most likely focus and tracking error codes. These will be displayed when the lens in the laser pickup is dirty or defective. Static noise sometimes will be heard when a CD unit is attempting to focus/track on a disc but cannot do so.
