Audio Systems: car stereo lights, going in the right direction, ford dealership

Question
I drive a 98 Ford Explorer.  The lights in my stereo don't show so I can't tell the time or see which station is playing.  Every once in a while the lights will burn dimly then will go off again.  What should I do?

Answer
Doris,
It sounds like the lights in the head unit are burned out and need to be replaced. This is a bit odd, as you don't usually see this problem until a stereo gets really old, but it does happen. You'll have to visit your local Ford dealership and ask them what the cost would be to fix it. It's also possible that for the amount Ford would charge you to fix it, you could replace it with a better aftermarket CD player from your local car audio shop. This is something you'd have to research though. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I hope this gets you going in the right direction.

Best Of Luck,
Alan
