i recently installed a new aiwa cd deck in my 1997 dodge neon. the problem is is that it doesnt save any of the settings or the time when the car is off for a few minutes... i have to hook the 12 volt battery and the ingition switch together for the unit to turn on. is this normal?

TJ,
Most stereos will have two 12 volt feed lines, one for memory 12 volt hot at all times(yellow wire) and one for main power switched with the key, (red wire) You will need a 12 volt test lamp to locate each of the two 12 volt feeds. The yellow wire must be hot at all times for station memory. Look at the install guide to see if your stereo has these two colored wires (the colors may be different for this stereo)

TJ,
You need to use a 12 volt test lamp or a volt meter and locate what wire in the factory harness that has 12 volts on it with the key turned OFF!, when you find that wire, connect it to the yellow wire from the stereo. next connect the red wire from the stereo a wire that goes to 12 volts with the key turned to ON!

Answer
TJ,
Take a look at the owners manual to locate the radio fuse, it may be blown. If you cannot find the fuse you can always run a wire directly to a fuse in the fuse box that is always hot. next connect this hot wire to the yellew memory wire, this should do the trick!
