Audio Systems: pioneer deh-p3500 burnout?, volt power supply, pioneer deh p3500

Question
I have this pioneer head unit I had in my Beretta for a period of time. I went and had it installed into my wifes car recently and nothing would work. I am told by the installer (a pro) that the head unit probably has a short in it. I was wondering if it would be worth the time to fix it, either myself or by someone. Or if it would be cheaper just to buy a new one. Any thoughts you might have on this would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Benjamin,
Your first step is to test the stereo out of the vehicle. Use a 12 volt power supply of at least 10 amps or you can connect it to a 12 volt battery from a car or lawn tractor. Hook up two speakers to the stereo on your work bench and turn it on to see if it will power up with sound output. If the stereo works OK on your work bench, the installer may have installed the stereo incorrectly! If your stereo does not power up you will need to do some troubleshooting to determine to cause of the NO power up problem.
