Audio Systems: CD Changer, home entertainment systems, factory warranty

Question
We have a 2001 Camry with the in-dash (factory) 6 cd changer.  We have had the car 3 years with no problems, but 5 months ago, in the middle of a long trip, the changer started to skip.  Thinking maybe there was a problem with the cd, I moved on to the next cd and suddenly, the changer began a series of clicking noises and then silence...and an error message (3ER) appeared....my my cd's were now held hostage as there was no way they would eject.

After we arrived home, it was replaced as it was still under factory warranty.  3 weeks ago, mind you, in the middle of another long trip, the cd changer began the identical clicking as before and would not let me eject the cd's, then the 3ER message appeared. Once again, my cd's wereheld hostage by the player.

I have used the exact same cd's in my husband's truck, 3 computers, and both of the home entertainment systems with no problems.  However, one of the cd's removed from the car prior to the trip, upon closer inspection, was slightly warped.

My question is:  Can there be a another problem with the car non related to the changer itself which would cause this problem?  OR are these in dash 6 cd changers just problematic or am I just getting junk!

After replacement, I will now use I-Pod....cause I am tired of waiting for my cd's to be returned from the factory.

Answer
Mikki,
The tray units in these CD changers have a very close tolerance due to the physical size of the CD assembly. Any warped/bent or cracked CD's can cause the mechanics to bind up, if this happens small plastic parts will break and then you will hear the clicking noise! These 6 disc changers are forever in my shop for repairs, I would say that they are not reliable!
