Audio Systems: 2000 Grand Caravan stereo, automatic volume control, grand caravan

Question
Hi again Tom - THX for the answer.
Do the 2000 Grand Caravans have some sort of device that keeps the volume from going to high?
I'm 99.9% sure it's a basic unit, not the Infinity one.
When I crank the sound up the speakers respond but then automatically lower back down, almost seems like they have something built in to prevent blowing them.
I'm going to buy an aftermarket head unit but will I need to also but better speakers or will this problem go away once I pull out the stock unit?
Any insight you have is appreciated.

Answer
Rick,
It's possible that some sort of automatic volume control (AVC) circuit is built into this stereo, however I haven't heard of one for factory stereos. If you are planning on replacing the factory stereo, make sure that the factory system isn't a premium sound system with an external amp mounted somewhere in your vehicle. If you pull out the factory stereo and give me the complete model number of the stereo, I can look up the model number to see what type of sound system your vechicle actually has in it. Once I determine what system is installed in your vehicle I can better advise you of what after market stereo and any other equipment you may need.
