Audio Systems: Antenna Install Electrical Problems, antenna work, antenna control

Question
Hello Mr. Clark. I have a 1997 Honda Accord wagon. I attempted to replace the OEM power antenna with an aftermarket unit. It is not a direct replacement and required splicing. It looks like my technique was terrible, because neither the new antenna nor the OEM unit are powered anymore, and I am blowing the fuse for the antenna/interior lights. Could this also be causing these new problems?: Radio presets  are being lost when the ignition switch is turned to off; the windshield wipers have lost their alternating function; the clock resets every time the switch is off, and it is almost too dim to see now.

Thanks for your response, and I will be taking the car to a professional to try to undo my antenna work.

Answer
Michael,
Before attempting to splice the wires together you should have asked your dealer for the wiring diagram of the antenna control wires. Most likely when you cut or spliced the wires you shorted something out which blew the fuse for the station memory and the wipers.
