Audio Systems: stock Volvo 6-disc changer, volvo 850 glt, volvo 850

Question
I recently purchased a 1993 Volvo 850 GLT. It came with a Volvo 6-disc changer in the trunk made by Alpine. The CD player only works sometimes, and when it does work it often cuts off after a little while. It is very weird, because it will not work for maybe 2 days then randomly start working for a couple days without me doing anuything, with the same cds that hadn't worked before. When it doesn't work, it just cycles through the slots as if there were no discs, although it takes each disc in and spits it back out when it does this. I know I am putting the discs in correctly, and there is no problem with the discs because they sometimes work. Is there anything I can do to try to fix this problem, like check wires or buy new cables, or do I need to take it in to a shop? Thank you

Answer
Scott,
The wires to the CD changer are most likely OK, the problem may be a defective connection inside the CD changer. The fault could also be due to an intermittent laser pickup assembly. You will need to have the changer serviced to repair the problem.
