Audio Systems: stereo receiver, amplifier section, protection circuits

Question
I have an aiwa av-d97 receiver. When I plug it into the wall it goes on standby-you can hear it clicking, but when I press the power button nothing happens; you can hear what sounds like a double click but thats' it. I think it is related to the power supply and that the solution could be relatively simple. If you can help me I would appreciate it.

Thank You, Silvio Frank

Answer
Dear Silvio,

Sounds like you've tripped the thermal protection circuits, usually a result of having played something too loudly, which caused the amplifier section to overheat. You may have also blown a fuse. Check all the user-servicable fuses and, if broken, replace them with fuses of the same value. Their location will be in the user's manual.

If that doesn't work, I'm afraid the unit needs a trip to the shop.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,
