Audio Systems: pioneer deck amp issue, output transistors, stereo repair

Question
i have a pioneer p3500. the standard speaker wires dont have output but the preamps still work. i've been told this is a common problem. and my local stereo repair guy wants $75.00 to fix it, if its a common problem my experience has told me its probably a common fix...whats usually the problem and would it be easier to have him fix it...obviously the internal amp isnt working but why?..
thanks for your help in advance

Answer
Dennis,
Most likely something is shorted in the main amp and this is activating the protection relay. You may want to test all the output transistors for a shorted transistor. Unless you know what to look for and know how to test transistors, it would be better to have it repaired by a pro!
