Audio Systems: Problem with Sony fold down deck., sony stereos, ribbon cable

I installed the Sony deck, but it won't work.  No power, so I connected it straight to my battery to check if it was my car's wires or it was the deck.  For some reason, the deck's ejection button works (looks like the deck works), but the face doesn't.  What could be the possible problem(s)?  If so, are there any possible fixes or should I scrap it?

On many of these Sony stereos I find that the ribbon cable that connects the front panel to the main board will have a tear in it and the front panel will not respond correctly. If possible can you give me the complete model number of your Sony stereo?
