Recently my car was broken into and my after market stereo was broken by the intruders.  They didn't get to pull the deck out because they broke it while trying to wedge it out.  The previous car stereo worked fine and now my problems starts from here.  Since then I have tried numerous after market stereo decks and I get no power.  I managed to find an old Honda Civic factory deck and tried it.  It works!  But everytime I turn off my car and remove my key, the memory is loss and I have to re-enter the code again.  When I'm driving with the factory deck sometimes it switches on and off, but no memory loss.  These are the problems I encountered and would like to fix, but my main concern is the after market decks that I try won't work.  Any suggestions?

*Are Honda and Acura factory stereo decks compatible?  If not, is there a way to make an Acura factory stereo deck work on a Honda?

Jason,
The connectors on the Honda and Acura may be the same, however the wire configurations may be different. To install the Acura stereo in your Honda you will need to contact your local Honda and Acura dealers and ask for the stereo connector wiring diagrams. As for using/installing after market stereos, you will need to make sure that you have both 12 volt feeds to the after market stereo. one, 12 volts hot at all times and one, 12 volts with the key on!

By the two 12 volt you mean the black (ground) and the red (12 volt)?  I have my harness connected color for color (the only ones I'm not using are the orange (dimmer) and blue stripe (power antenna)).  Is there another way to wire the stereo other than color for color?

The stero I have is an old 1998 Kenwood KDC-S5009.  It looks like I hooked everything up correct, but I'm still not getting anything.  Can you tell me which wire to connect to the positive and negative of my car battery to check if the stereo works?

Answer
Jason,
On the kenwood stereo you should see a red wire that goes to 12 volts + with the key on. And a yellow wire that you need to connect to a 12 volt + source (hot) at all times. This yellow wire is for station memory, it will also hold your access code after you switch off the key. You don't need the dimmer or power antenna connections. Use an ohm meter to check the speaker lines to the speakers, should be about 8 ohms each pair of wires going to the speakers.
