Audio Systems: Radio resetting to defaults when turned off, clock setting, random fashion

Question
I have an Alpine Model CDA-9820XM receiver which will always do a micro Processor reset after muliple presses on the SOURCE/POWER button on the unit.  The SOURCE button is used to go between AM/FM, CD and XM Radio.  You run a risk of doing a radio reset, lose clock setting and all presets when pushing this button.  The unit will reset between 3 and 18 pushes in random fashion.  This condition exists on at least 3 Alpine units I have seen so far.  The unit is now in for dealer service BUT I really feel Alpine has a Product defect.  Perhaps a new ROM is needed or is this unit installed wrong?  Has anyone else had a similar expierence that you know of?

Your thoughts Tom. . .

Kindest regards,

Dave

Answer
Dave,
I haven't seen this problem before, However I have found defective solder connections on the connector soldered on the rear of the main board for speaker/power connections. A defective connection will cause a ramdom loss of station memory if the memory lead is at fault. You may want to contact Alpine for info on this reset problem of yours. It's very possible that this newer XM unit has an Eprom problem.
