Audio Systems: Kenwood Digital Radio, face plate, digital radio

My Kenwood model KDC-519 will start to activate when I turn on my ignition, but only gets about half way through the open cycle of the face plate and stops. Radio does not operate. Any Ideas?
Do you think Kenwood would be any help?

Kenwood will only tell you to send it in for repair. Had this stereo been working for any length of time before it started acting up? I have the service manual for this model stereo, I will look it over for some ideas on what my be the cause of the faceplate problem.
