I have a Volvo 360 GLT (yes groan ahoy) that I am trying to install a new pioneer unit to. I managed to get the old crappy stereo out but when I go to connect the new wires I can't seem to figure out the colour coding. It appears to only have an ignition wire and no battery wire. We connect them up and the unit doesn't turn on.

Leni,

ok it sounds like you have made one of the big mistakes in an install which is cut the factory harness plug off .. if you didnt great because your in for an easy professional looking install .. all you need is a wire harness adapter *8-12 bucks* at radio shack .. this will wire into your new pioneers harness color for color then simply plug back into your factory plug .. now if you did cut your factory plug off dont fear because www.streetdreams.com/wires should have a color code diagram for your volve and help you get everything wired up .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else just let me know

thanks

Cody, Thanks. I had a look and my last radio didn't connect via a factory harness. All the wires were taped inside plastic tubing and directly into the radio. (Seriously, inside the metal casing of the actual radio). The other thing is that I think I have found the missing wire but it still doesn't start when I turn the ignition. Can a harness still work?

Answer
Leni,

strange to not have a harness , i have never ran into a vehicle ever older models that dont use a harness , but i have never worked on volvo so it might be a differnt system than i'm used to .. i would still think they make a harness for you .. so i would try radio shack /circuit city / best buy ect.. to dig up an adapter .. if its a no go .. try the website i gave you before www.streetdreams.com/wires .. if that doesnt work out i would call volvo's customer assistance line they usually have some very helpful people at these centers that have an overfilled computer full of stuff to help you out so they should be able to give you the color code or the source for the wire ... if you need anything else let me know

thanks

PS the customer number should be in your owners manual
