Audio Systems: smoke from radio, antenna control, flip screen

Question
A friend and myself were installing a flip screen radio and smoke came from the bottom of the head unit.when we saw the smoke we could no longer get any power to the unit. sent it off and they would not say what was wrong with it but it would cost 165.00 to fix. so of course we said no and they sent it back. now my question to you is what could of caused the smoke and what could possiably be wrong with it. the unit came straight from my truck so i know that it was working when he got it. thanks for your time.

Answer
Ben,
Several possible causes of the smoke are, 1-a speaker wire was shorted to the chassis ground when installing the stereo and this caused the amp/s to burn up(smoke) 2-one of the remote leads was touching the chassis ground which burned up the switched power line transistor/s (antenna control or amp control) Please contact me direct for more info about you stereo.
