Audio Systems: Installing two 12s...stumped., car stereo speakers, watts rms

Question
Hi,
I have a 2002 Saturn SC2, I purchased dual 12's in a box. I currently have all factory installed compenents on my car. How do I install my subs. Will I need an amplifier? What type of wires and other items will I need? Please help!

Answer
Amanda,

ok now you really need 2 things to make a decent sounding system that will not give you any problems a good aftermarket head unit and an amplifier, but you CAN do without the head unit, but usually causes problems and is harder to install .. but i will give you a layout from your stock head unit .. you will need an input/output converter box for RCA cables to your amp* 15-20 bucks at radio shack tell them what you need and they will dig one up* you also need an amplifier now you need to know some specifics about your subwoofers before you go and buy an amp, here is an example of what to look for " 250 watts RMS @ 2ohms" you need to find an amp to match this power rating so that the amp should read " 250 watts *or under* RMS @ 2ohms" .. now once you have your amp you will need to wire in the converter box which needs jumper wires from ALL of your car stereo speakers * but for subwoofers you can get by with using both sets of rear wires like left rear for both left rear and left front ect.. after your box is wired in you need a set of RCA patch cables , power cable , ground cable , and light gauge RMS turn on wire .. ask the saleperson at radio shack about your cables and what wattage your amp is so they can give you the proper gauge and maybe even have a kit that can save you some money ... now the RMS turn on wire will need to spliced into your factory harness * www.streetdreams.com/wires has a color code diagram for your car that should help you find the 12volt ignition wire which is what the connection should be made to*, the 12 volt power cable needs to be ran directly from your battery through an inline fuse then to the amp , the ground needs to be kept under 3 feet in length and mounted as close to the amp as possible to a shiney bare metal surface... now you need your speaker cables to run from your subs to your amp * follow amps instructions for OHM wiring* and your ready for sound... hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
