At first, my premium audio system from volvo would not eject my cd, so i took it out, took off the top and the cd player and manually moved the gears on the side to get it out.  i plugged the player back in and planned on watching the device closely as i put in another test cd to see if it would work  again, as i touched the device (with power running), the radio shut off and fails to turn back on.  Did i somehow short out the system? Is the repair simple, or does it require an entire new system?

Alex,
When you touched the (device) did you use a metal tool or did you touch it with your finger? If you touched it with your finger and your body was charged with static, you may have blown out the part that you touched. The stereo may only need a minor repair, probably much less than purchasing a new stereo.

the unit shut down when i tried to pick up the cd player portion to watch it as i inserted another cd.  I dont recall correctly if it occured right when i touched it or if it was when i tried to lift it.  could this cause a different problem?

Answer
Alex,
If you have an anti-theft unit and you have the security code for your stereo, you can reconnect the stereo system and then disconnect the battery and then reconnect the battery after about 10 minutes to see if a reset will make the stereo work again.
