Audio Systems: Car Electrical, farad capacitor, amp alternator

Question
Hi I have a 96 Cavalier in which I've installed a 200 amp alternator.  I am running two audiobahn amplifiers and a 1 farad capacitor.  When I start my car and let it idle with the lights on they are dim.  When I press the accelerator they brighten up with the increased rpm's.  When the engine slows back to idle the lights dim again.  This is all without turning on my audio system.  Any ideas on why this dimming is occuring.

Answer
Spencer,
Some alternators need a bare minimum RPM in order for the voltage regulator to fully function. With a 200 amp alternator you should check the minimun RPM for this alternator. Double check the engine idle RPMs with a tach and adjust the RPM if needed. Also check the size of the pully on the alternator. You may also want to check and test your battery.
