Question -
I found an old repair bill from 2 years ago where the dealer had removed the rear seat and disconnected the RSS module and stated that he reset the radio the noise was gone.  Est. for repair $900 parts and labor. I declined as I thought that was too high.-Does that make sense?------------------------

Question -
I have a 1996 Cadillac De Ville. Sitting still with the car idling I can pull in all AM stations. As soon as I put the car in gear, I get nothing but static on any station out of town. My dealer here doesn't have a clue. FM stations are OK.  Any  ideas?  Thank you.
Answer -
Tom,
A few things that you can check out. 1, make sure that the radio has a good clean connection on the antenna jack & plug.  2, clean and tighten the antenna ground if your antenna is mounted on the fender. 3, If grounding straps are installed between the hood and the body of your vehicle, make sure that they have a good connection, if you do not have hood ground wires try installing them to see if they help.

Tom,
I will check this problem out with the RSS module I don't have a clue as to what this module is used for. As soon as I find out something I will let you know. I'm seeing my GM service shop on monday and I will have an answer for you.

Answer
Tom,
I spoke with a friend at a GM service shop and he told me that the RSS is called, Rear Suspension Sensor module. This module (basically)is activated when you put the car in gear to level out the car. This is most likely why you hear the noise on the AM radio. The noise from the module may be caused by defective noise filters inside the module. You may be able to find a good used module at an auto salvage yard.
