Audio Systems: Camry 2000 stereo/spkr problem, output circuits, side speakers

Question
Hi Tom,

I purchased a Camry 2000 and I noticed afterwards that the front-right side speakers (small and big) make just a static noise, and only sometimes you can hear a little bit of music for a short time, then they go back to their static noise (both of them). Is this a common problem for this car/stereo? What do you think that the problem is: speakers (I would think that there is a small chance that both speakers go bad at the same time) or the stereo?

Thank you in advance for your help,
Lee

Answer
Lee,
Most likely your stereo has defective solder connections on the speaker connector on the rear of the stereo or on the pins of the audio output IC. I have found on a few of these stereos that defective capacitors in the audio output circuits can cause what you described.
