Audio Systems: wiring, wire harnesses, rear speakers

Question
Hi. I've just installed a Sony CD radio into my 1999 Golf, but the rear speakers don't seem to work (they were working previously), and every time I switch the radio off, I lose the pre-set stations/ time. Also, the back of the unit seems to be getting very hot. I simply connected the 2 wire harnesses and thought the settings would be the same as my previous unit. I hope you can help. Cheers.

Answer
Ash,

ok first i hope you used a wire harness adapter if you did its a good guide to go by to make sure your wiring is in the correct place.. now if you didnt check out www.streetdreams.com/wires this will have a color code guide for you to double check all of your wiring mainly your 12volt constant * the reason for lost presets * and your speaker channel wiring * for lost sound * .. now if you cant get your presets to work , you can simply run a new wire directly from your battery to your head unit's harness and connect to the 12 volt constant wire make sure you pass it through an inlinefuse for protection this should fix that problem , now if you cant get your speaker problem fixed run a set of leds from one of the speaker channels that do work the front right for example run the led to one of the rear speakers that doesnt work and wire directly to see if the speaker works , if it does * try using the rear speaker wire to the front speaker if it doesnt work its the CD player , if it does most likly there is a problem in the wire between the deck and the rear speakers so simply run new wire to the rear speakers .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
