Audio Systems: Replacing factory radio with factory radio, gm system, factory radio

Question
2002 Pont Montana. Want to change CD/Cas radio with "in dash" 6-disc changer. GM has numerous "UC6" radios for various models and years. They all look like the same radio. Why all the different part numbers? Will any of them work or just the one for the Montana? Why a different part number for the Venture and Silhouette? Will my main circuit board interchange with the board on one of these radio? If so, I won't need the dealer to program the car's computer to the new radio.

Thanks

Answer
Jay,

most units within the range of years will plug in and work in most any car in its class such as cars / trucks ect.. now GM units usually fit all types cars and trucks , SUV's you name it within the confines of years say 98-2004 somewhere in there, where the part numbers come in is , some have different mounting brackets, some have none, some snap in place, some screw in, get the picture, a S10 Delco CD player will work in a Silverado, but the mounting tabs are in different places.  now a reprogram is a drastic assumption, if you are wanting to change the unit to some other GM system make sure it will work with the montana i.e. call GM's customer service line and let them help you out , now if you are wanting to install aftermarket you dont have to worry about OEM part numbers, its pick and buy , you will need a dash mount kit and a wire harness kit for your exact application if you choose aftermarket .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
