Audio Systems: to repair or replace my car radio, leaky capacitors, cassette radio

Question
I have a 1990 oldsmobile cuttless supreme stock am/fm auto reverse cassette radio with a 5 band equ. I have the controls in the steering wheel, preset,am/fm,seek and volume. When the volume goes up the left speakers start to get louder and then they get softer a little bit later they get loud again, then they get lower again, then if I lower the volume they work fine. Can you help with this.

Also, do they make a replacement radio that can be controled by my steering wheel controls?

Answer
Stephen,
Most likely the electronic volume control circuit is at fault. I have found on some on these units that weak or leaky capacitors in the volume control circuit can cause this sound problem. As for the steering wheel controls, Some after market stereos will work with the steering wheel controls, however you have to find units with with an ext control jack. you will also need the control adapter the interfaces the two items together.
