Audio Systems: No sound, 1991 toyota corolla, toyota corolla

Question
I have a 1991 Toyota Corolla and I've had a Kenwood CD receiver installed for about a year and a half now.  My alternator went bad yesterday.  I got the alternator fixed and now my radio doesn't work.  It will come on but no sound comes through the speakers.  Also when I put a CD in the stereo it will not recognize the disk.  It moves from CD right back to tuner as if there is nothing in there.  Is there a fixable problem with the radio or is it just busted?

Answer
Monique,
Most likely when the alternator failed, it may have damaged the audio output amp in the stereo. When the alternator failed, it may have caused a part to burn and smoke and the smoke could have settled on the lense of the CD player unit. Your stereo might also have a common power problem that is effecting both the audio output and the CD player.
