Audio Systems: 98 Nissan Max. Radio Repair, nissan dealer, max radio

Question
Tom,  I have a factory installed radio, tape player and CD player combination unit in a 98 Maxima. The volume knob is irratic and slight movement of the knob causes immediate volume increase with inability to decrease the volume except turning while pulling very hard on the knob. We're told by the local Nissan dealer that the entire radio will need to be replaced. Any thoughts?  Glenn Larkin

Answer
Glenn,
Why would someone want to replace the complete radio when only the volume control needs replacing? The dealer sounds like someone who wants to make a very quick profit at your expense. My shop repairs many of the Nissan stereos and I can tell you that on the average a volume control(part) will cost about $18-$20. many units are repaired for under $100 (parts and labor) Please contact me direct for info about having your stereo repaired.
