Audio Systems: removing car cd player, pioneer cd player, car cd player

Question
Cody M,
I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla, in which a pioneer cd player was installed.  The cd player no longer works.  Cds will go in and out but will grind when you try to play them.  The radio still works.  I need to take it out to find the serial # and model to see if parts and labor are still under warranty.  First ? Do you know how to take the cd player out and second any ideas what may be wrong with the cd player. It is less than a year old and I have not been in any wrecks.
Thanks
Katie

Answer
Katie,

it should be under warranty if the unit was purchased new so you should be able to either get the unit fixed or replaced.. from what you describe it sounds like a major component such as the disc acuator or other piece may be broken or out of alignment which would cause the noise, you have 2 options since i dont have a toyota book, the first and the best option is to go by your liabary and rent or by your local auto parts store and buy a Haynes Repair manual for your specific vehicle, its about 10-15 bucks and worth twice as much in information this will give you exact instructions with pictures to help with the removal, the other option is to call Scosche the makers of the dash install kits , give them a ring and tell them you lost your booklet to your kit and you want to remove the unit and ask them for directions usually they will give you a good guide over the phone here is the number 1800-621-3695 ext 3 .. there are some other places you can try such as circuit city, radio shack and other places that sell/install car stereos some can print you off a guide for free .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
