Audio Systems: aftermarket stereo, hyundai elantra gt, 2002 hyundai elantra gt

Question
I have a 2002 hyundai elantra gt 2.0L.  the dealership has refused to warrant the repair of an alternator and battery.  they claim it is due to my aftermarket stereo.  they state that because the amplifier is connected directly to the battery that i have "altered the electrical system".
the stereo was professionally installed over 1 year ago.  the power source for the amp is directly from the battery and protected by a fuse, in addition to the amplifier's fuses.  this is a small system (no subwoofers).  i've had stereo shops tell me that it is the proper install and also concur that my stereo is not large enough to do that damage.  needless to say, i am scheduled for arbitration with hyundai in a couple of weeks and i need to know where i stand.  my questions are: isn't it industry standard to install the amplifier in this manner?  and where can i find "backing" on this?  thank you for your time.

Answer
Eric,
With an amp connected directly to the battery, you haven't altered the electrical system. A suggestion that I can give you is to call several other foreign car dealers and ask about their policies on connecting aftermarket stereo systems to a vehicle. You may also want to contact your local legal aid society for legal advise.
