Tom-how do I set the time on a sony CDX-L300
car radio ?

I'm not totally sure for this model, however on most radios to set the clock you need to turn the radio off (with the key to on position)and then press the set/memory button which will light up the clock display. After the clock is displayed you simply use the tune up down or scan/search buttons to adjust the hours and minutes. Your model radio may use any combination of other buttons to set the clock.
