Audio Systems: 99 Mazda Protege Radio lost sound, mazda dealer, stock radio

Question
I have a 99 Mazda Protege with a stock radio. I have not added a thing to the sound system, to my knowledge it is all stock. I have had this car since 2001 with no audio problems, then one day, there was no sound whatsoever coming from the car speakers, no music, no static, nothing.
I had the system checked and the guy said all the fuses were fine and I would need to replace the radio completely to fix the problem. The radio still works, it tunes, scans, even "plays" CDs, just no sound. There must be another way to fix this problem besides total replacement...
What else can I do?

Answer
Jessica,
The problem may be due to a defective amp inside the stereo or a defective external amp mounted somewhere in the vehicle. You may want to ask the local Mazda dealer if your vehicle has an external amp somewhere in the vehicle. If your vehicle does have an external amp the fuse may be blown that supplies power to it. Replacing the complete radio could be a costly option if you have the dealer do it. please contact me direct for more info about your radio.
