Audio Systems: CD player, honda accord lx, sony cd player

Question
My son has a 99 Honda Accord LX with a cassette player but no CD player.  He'd like to add a CD player which can play CD-Rs with mp3s.  Honda will sell him one for $350 plus $100 labor.  Best Buy has a $160 Sony CD player with minimal installation costs but they say they'd need to remove cassette player and not re-install it b/c the "brains" of the 2 systems won't match.  They'd sell him a $450 combo CD/cassette player.  Can you suggest a less expensive way for him to end up with both cassette and CD player?

Answer
David,
Take a look at the online stores that sell the RF type CD changers. I have a GMC van with a cassette player and since I have many 1970's cassettes I kept the original cassette/stereo and installed under the drivers seat a 6 disc CD player changer that has a small remote control. The best thing about this is just about anyone can install it since it hooks into the existing FM antenna wire and the CD sound plays through the FM stereo. For power you simply run a wire to a 12 switched source in the fuse panel! I purchased my unit over 5 years ago for about $179 and it still plays great. The changer is a Pioneer, however I have seen many newer units that I like that will play MP3's and CD RW's. Check out BestBuy, CircuitCity, crutch Field ect. Just about any good car stereo outlet will or should have several units on display. Your son may want to go this way and pick out the remote control unit that will look best in his vehicle.
