Question -
Hey Tom, How do I identify what factory system I have in my car? it is a 1994 olds CutlassSupreme LS AM/FM Cassette with dash tweeters, bottom of door, and rear deck speakers. The rear deck speakers have 4 wires going to them, and they have great bass, almost like a subwfer. Most people think I have a subwfr! The stereo or speakers do not say Bose on them that I can find. Actually its not a bad sounding factory system. It is better than the Bose system in my 1993 Lumina. Can you help me?

Roger,
If you have a Bose sound system in your vehicle it would say on the front of the stereo GM BOSE! Also if Bose speakers were installed they will have the Bose logo on the speaker frame or boxes. If you can remove the stereo and give me all the numbers off the stickers on it, I can tell you what system you have.

Roger,
based on the numbers that you gave me, your stereo system is a standard GM sound system. Depending on the amps in the stereo, the output power(wattage)is around 25-35 watts per channel.

Answer
Roger,
You can install a Sub woofer in your vehicle with this stereo. You will need a High level(speaker level) to low level(RCA cables) adapter. This adapter allows you to connect to the speaker wires for the rear channel and then connect the output to your sub woofer amp. If you connect anything else to the speaker outputs from the factory stereo, you will risk burning up the amps in the stereo. You should be able to find this adapter at Radio Shack or at any good car stereo retailer.
