Audio Systems: 2001 Nissan X terra, nissan x terra, nissan dealership

Question
My 2001 Nissan X terra has an in dash 6 CD changer/player.  The CD part does not work, and I need some advice.  I really like the 6 disc changer in the dash, but I can't even find what kind of stereo it is (altough it is the original factory stereo).  And I can't find a similar new stereo for sale.  Is it worth trying to get this one serviced, and if so where do I go?  If not, do you have a suggestion for an in dash changer model?

Answer
Erica,

ok here are a few options that you can take .. first is the unit should have a brand but sometimes dont because it is factory and is contracted out to some company give nissans customer service number a call and ask them for the name of the manufactor * you can also call your dealer and get the same info and also ask them to look up the price for a new changer unit be prepared it might be steep*.. ok the other options you have is to have it serviced this can be done at a few places shop around for a good audio shop that is qualified to work on factory OEM systems *most are* the other place is the nissan dealership but this might be more expensive but you know they have experience with "nissan units" .. now the other path is buy aftermarket i would visit some websites such as sony.com , pioneer, alpine ect.. some top names get their customer service email and drop them a line to ask if they offer something that will fit into the dash of your xterra , you might also try calling or emailing crutchfield.com they have decent prices but EXCELLENT service if theirs one out there that will work they know about it .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else just let me know

thanks
