Audio Systems: Stereo or possibly speakers, pioneer speakers, volt ohm meter

Question
Hi I have a problem, ok I have a 88 beretta it used to have a cd players but someone broke in and stole it...so now I have a cassette/radio with pioneer speakers.they worked fine for awhile then all of a sudden the right front and back speakers stopped working along with most the bass in the other two speakers, there's no cracklin or anything no volume out of the right two, I undid the right two speakers and hooked them up to the left side to see if they still worked, and they did still work, I don't know what could be the problem, a wire? a fuse? the speakers? the stereo itself? Thanks a bunch if you can help :P

Answer
Hello Jon,
Most likely something is faulty in the stereo. I would beleive that the amplifier for the right channel is either defective or that the solder on the pins of the amp are in need of resoldering. You may want to test the wiring to the speakers by removing the stereo and pulling out the connector from the rear of the stereo. Use a volt ohm meter to test the speaker lines to each speaker to see if they measure about 8 ohms on each of the four speaker wire pairs/lines. I do recall that one stereo that I repaired a couple of weeks ago had defective solder connections on the pins of the connector that was soldered to the circuit board.
